Charity recognised for work over the last year
Pocklington Rugby in the Community has received an award for its service to the local community over the last 12 months.
The awards presented by the Rotary Club of Pocklington, focused on the local communities response to the pandemic, recognising individuals and organisations who had made a difference.
Four people received certificates recognising exceptional service within the community. Andy Bowden, Pocklington Rugby in the Community Chair was on hand to receive the award with the Charity recognised as a driving force alongside many voluntary activities in the town, supporting the local Covid 19 group, the Peoples Pantry and working towards ‘End of Pockdown’.
Other recipients were:
Heather Davidson of People’s Pantry nominated who worked with her volunteers to provide support for so many people across the area before, during and since the pandemic.
Ruth Steel, Melbourne SOS volunteers who delivered shopping and prescriptions in Melbourne during lockdown.
Barry Stockdale., who provided news about Covid figures and other information during lockdown.
The ‘Paul Harris Fellowship Award’ in appreciation of significant assistance for the furtherance of understanding and friendly relations among peoples of the World went to:
Geoff Sheasby, this year celebrating 20 years as Pocklington’s Town Crier.
George Jibson for his work on the Pocklington Imagination Library, which provides free books for local children. George launched the scheme 10 years ago aged 14.
Zoe Hodgkin & Ruth Jackson, jointly recognised for setting up and running the Pocklington Covid 19 Support Group. They recognised the need, planned, recruited volunteers and ran the support network during the first lockdown.
