Christmas Cheer

Pocklington Rugby in the Community volunteers had a busy weekend just before Christmas. On Friday 20th December, they cooked and served 70 hot Christmas dinners in the clubhouse at Pocklington Rugby Club, in an effort to bring some Christmas cheer to residents in our local community. We were delighted to welcome Sir David Davis MP and Pocklington Town Mayor, Roly Cronshaw, who were very interested in the work of the charity following it being awarded the prestigious Kings Award for Voluntary Service.

All guests were entertained by the pupils from St Mary and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School who sang Christmas Carols and songs from their Christmas plays. Further entertainment followed from The Red Sky Ukulele group before Santa arrived with his ‘little helpers’ to hand out presents to all our guests.

The volunteers were back in action on Sunday 22nd December, when they again cooked a two course dinner for 80 residents that were delivered to those who were unable to join us on the Friday.

A big thank you must go to all our sponsors who made today’s event possible with their donations: Ismail Patel, from the Brookfield Group who own the  Pocklington Services Shell Garage,  gave us a very generous donation of £1000; to East Riding Council with a grant from ‘Do It For East Yorkshire; to T H Hobson and Sons Farms for donating the potatoes and carrots; to ‘The Sprout King’ John Clappison for the sprouts and to Cranswick PLC for the pigs in blankets. Thanks also to our ‘resident chef’ Kev Wright and to Pocklington R.U.F.C for allowing us to host the dinners at in the clubhouse.

Our volunteers are amazing, giving up their time for others – thank you so much.
